For getting the provisional password, a trader has to contact the Excise and Taxation Officer concerned and provide him with basic documents.

A senior official from the department said they wanted a smooth transition from the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime to the Goods and Service Tax (GST) system and the GST numbers would be issued to all registered dealers for the same.

Department is also planning to organise camps at various paces for the convenience of the traders.

“Goods and Service Tax will replace all the indirect taxes levied on goods and services by government both central and state. It is expected to bring one rate of taxation and bring equality,” said Satinder Singh, a trader.

He further added that the overall impact of the Goods and Service Tax on trade will be positive as it will lead to abolishment of all other taxes.
