New Delhi, July 21
The Delhi Government is considering issuing fitness certificates to diesel vehicles of 10 to 15 years old for allowing them to ply outside Delhi-NCR, a day after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered deregistration of such vehicles in a phased manner.
The government is also contemplating bringing a policy to deregister diesel vehicles over 10 years old in a phased manner in view of the NGT directives. The decisions were shared after representatives of nearly 30 transporters' association today met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Transport Minister Satyendar Jain at the Delhi Secretariat here. The meeting was organised by the AAP's traders' wing.
"We heard the demands of the transporters. The government will study the NGT order first and then seek legal opinion on their demands. Thereafter, we will be able to take the decision to issue fitness certificates to diesel vehicles which are more than 10 years old," Jain told reporters here after the meeting
The green panel yesterday stated that deregistration of 15 to 10 years old diesel vehicles in the national Capital would be done in a phased manner while such trucks with national permits were barred from entering Delhi-NCR.
It also said that diesel vehicles which are 15-year-old should be de-registered first and will not get No Objection Certificate (NoC) for plying outside Delhi-NCR. Only deregistered diesel vehicles which are less than 15-year-old can get NoC for plying in select areas outside Delhi-NCR to be decided by states where vehicle density is less.
On both the issues, the government will take a final call only after studying the NGT order and taking legal opinion.
In the meeting today, plan to de-register diesel vehicles more than 15 years old in a phased manner was discussed and the government may take 4-5 months to phase out diesel vehicles of 10 years-15 years old under the first phase.
