For the first time Birth anniversary of the fourth Sikh Master Guru Ram Das was celebrated at Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here today. Guru Ram Das laid the foundation stone of Chak Ramdas or Ramdas Pur, which is now called Amritsar.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) executive director (North India), Rakesh Kalra, inaugurated the celebrations. He said it was an attempt to pay respect to the city’s founder as the airport also earned its name after the fourth Sikh Master. International airport was established here due to the Golden Temple and the holy city status of Amritsar, he added.
Airport director Venkasteshwar Rao said for the first time hymns of Guru Ram Dass were broadcast for 24 hours through public addressing system at the airport terminal. Besides, every passenger, whether boarding or alighting from the aircraft, was offered packed langar at the airport complex.
