Amritsar, January 3
The special gold and silver coins dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev will be made available from January 5.
The SGPC had scheduled a special meeting today to decide upon the modalities as the coins were supposed to be made available from tomorrow, but the meeting could not be held due to non-availability of SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal.
This was disclosed by Dharam Parchar Committee’s secretary Prof Balwinder Singh Jaura Singha today.
These 24-carat pure gold coins weighing 10 gm and 5 gm and 99.9 per cent pure silver coins weighing 25 gm and 50 gm were released on November 24 by the Governor at Sultanpur Lodhi. In the first phase, a total of 700 coins have been made. On one side of the coin, the impression of Gurdwara Nankana Sahib has been embossed, whereas the other side has got the image of Gurdwara Ber Sahib.
Prof Singha said the meeting was cancelled for the want of official nod from the SGPC president.
“The SGPC’s executive body has scheduled a meeting tomorrow at Talwandi Sabo. After getting official permission from the president, these coins will be officially released from January 5. We have dye of these coins in our possession and if the demand persists, the quantity of these coins can be increased,” he said.
Special counters would be set up at the Dharam Parchar Committee office in the Golden Temple complex from where these coins can be procured.
