Kacche Dhaagey and Kachche Dhaage are two different films. The first one is this week’s release in Punjabi, while latter is a Bollywood film starring Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan released in 1999, with different fates. The Hindi Kachche Dhaage garnered critical acclaim, and Punjab one is waiting for any kind of acclaim, which looks like a far-fetched possibility.
Directed by Buta Singh, the film stars Bharatdeep, Shreyaa Chawla and Yograj Singh. With Keeping khaandani dushmani as the main plot of the film, the director makes a childish attempt to join scenes. Slow, sluggish from the word go, the film fails to catch one’s interest.
The story is so done-to-death that even it were kissed by some popular director or star cast, it would still be Kacche Dhaagey. This is actually not a film, but some disjointed blocks being woven together by a kachha dhaaga. And we all know what happens when a weak thread is used to bind, it snaps...Exactly, you can feel this happening live in the film.
There is nothing to talk about the actors, because going by what we know, actors act. Right? In this film, however, actors just read out the lines from the teleprompter (if there was one on the sets)! Deep Mandian needs some serious lessons in acting and dialogue delivery. On screen, Deep maintains a stoic look and is at a loss for words. The same holds true for the actress, Shreyaa. From two expressionless actors to one who cannot stop expressing aloud, Yograj Singh! Why someone does not tell this actor that there is a difference between yelling and expressing anger in a scene.
With the entire film woven in a weak thread, there is no chance of it moving in uniformity. Even the songs couldn’t do any good for the film. In this phase of demonetisation, is it worth spending on a weak disjointed film?
