Keeping pace with the retreating winter, the exhibition, Creative Vibes, on at the Art Gallery in Kalagram, dwells heavily on the palate of this season with rather interesting compositions. The exhibition showcases a series of paintings, photographs and sculptures by the city artists, and is being organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre.

The realistic art paintings, placed right on the entrance of the gallery, by Parminder Singh remind you of the realism art in the 18th century that shares the likes of artists like Ramon Romero and Raphaelle Peale. A stark contrast of abstract art by Rajesh Chawla placed right next to Singh’s paintings makes a rather interesting composition, especially in terms of creating an illusion of textured layering. However, the most intense textures, bordering on the lines of mural paintings, were quite evident and aesthetically reflected in the works of Sanjeev Sharma.

The paintings at the gallery offered an interesting mix of different mediums, including the exquisite works of countryscapes in watercolour on paper by Basant Kumar and acrylic on canvas abstract art by P Verma. The sculptures at the exhibition add more value than weight to the artistic expression, be it in terms of experimentation with the medium or the intellect. The sculptures by Shabbir, Gurmeet Goldie and Sahil Dhawan seem to explore a new language of art that toys with the aesthetics as much as it stirs an intellectual thought.

Also, at the exhibition are a series of works on etching and aquatint, which seems to be a favourite with the younger artists. While Rahul Dhiman’s painting Right Turn and Wrong Turn, in etching, depicts his love for the railway tracks and signboards, it speaks volumes about his creative observation in the subjects he chooses to paint. The works of Simranjot and Preeti, in etching, makes for quite an interesting watch as well. The paintings at the gallery are on sale, starting from Rs 5,000.

(On till February 21)
