They are women of substance, women with élan! Our City Beautiful has these lovely home-makers, who have found out ways of leading and celebrating life.

Putting all their education and skill to the maximum use, they are building a whole new work force from their homes. They don’t get a salary, but they are keeping themselves gainfully involved. Without getting into the constraints of a job, they are making a huge difference in the lives of their friends and family.

Party time

Shweta Bhatia and Preeti Chawla (photo 1) are innovative party organisers. They have started a trend of sorts, where women have become more vociferous in organising and hosting all the festivals with their family. Be it Teej, Ganesh Chaturthi Christmas or Gurpurab, they do it with great fervour. On each occasion, they go to great lengths to maintain its true spirit and hence imbibe in their children a sense of belonging to their culture.

Says Preeti, “It is a small endeavour to revive our forgotten traditional values, and what better way than in a party way!”

Helping hand

Ritu Bal (photo 2 ), a mother of two energetic boys, has found some time and given some useful inputs in her husband’s business of a Night Club. If you are wondering what has a housewife got to do with this unusual business, here it is. She has pooled in her ideas for its designing, furnishing and decor. Following her womanly instinct, she has also given her tips on the food being served there.

Ritu tells us, “Just as we decorate our homes, we should use the same imagination in our place of work.”

She surely has been a real support to her husband.

Cooking a fortune

Another enterprising housewife is Ruchi Gupta (photo 3), who excels in preparing sumptuous dishes in her free time. Her own style of cooking has made her popular among her friends and family. She has the ability to turn the party around with more than a fair share of her deliciously prepared dishes. As a person who likes to walk an extra mile, even while cooking up a simple meal, Ruchi feels blessed to be more than just a regular housewife.

Creative satisfaction

Rashmi Mahajan (photo 4), a well educated housewife, one day realised that she has a knack of designing clothes. Virtually having no experience or degree in dress designing, she was able to come up with good ideas for her daughter’s dress. Her family supported her whole heartedly and with just a little effort, she is following her heart’s call. Something that started as a hobby has helped her fill her empty time. Now, Rashmi designs beautiful dresses for her family and friends, and she sure had a number of followers.

Says Rashmi, “It feels nice to be appreciated by my people, and it gives me an added confidence.” Hail the housewives of our city! They are the real movers and shakers, by adding more colour to their everyday lives, and making a huge difference to the socio-economic fabric of our society. No matter what field they perform in, they all agree in unison, that their real fee is, ‘the appreciation from their dear ones.’
