What could be more delightful than re-tracing the history of a place through a neat narrative? A coffee-table book Jind-Flowing Waters, Forgotten History, based on Jind, a district of Haryana, was released recently. The book has been compiled by Gauri Parashar Joshi, Administrator, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), and Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh.

According to Gauri, “Jind is an important part of our history. The book seeks to rekindle the integration of the past with the present. There is a common perception that youngsters today feel a disconnect with the era gone by. The writing endeavours to dismantle that notion. The primary objective of the book is to forge a link between the past and the present. Readers would be made to traverse a continuum of a legacy that many of us are blissfully oblivious of.” Recounting her experience of being in proximity with the district, Gauri said, “The little-known district of Jind has dozens of Tirthas. During our research of Jind, we came across artifacts dating back to 2nd century B.C.”

Ajit Balaji Joshi, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner, credited by Gauri for making contributions to the work, shared, “My experience of living in the state for nearly a decade helped me understand the region really well. History comes back to life through books. Haryana thrives with a multitude of cultures and that spirit has been captured by us in the work.”

The book was released by Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor Haryana and Punjab and Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana Chief Minister. Apart from that, a mobile app was also launched to make the work more easily accessible. Solanki, Governor, Haryana and Punjab, said, “The work deals with a pertinent topic that demands attention. Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana CM, added, “Re-visiting the history of a rich state like Haryana through this coffee-table book is a commendable effort.”
