Not only did these web series dispel the traditional, formula driven and TRP controlled television shows of the popularity they enjoyed, these series showcased fresh content with youth-oriented stories that captured the socio-cultural trends of the youth today!

While the first ones that caught the attention of the Internet users were, Baked, 24, Pitchers and Permanent Roommates most of which arrived in the first half of 2015, we take a look at those that followed! Brought in by Y-Films, youth division of Yash Raj Films, Man’s World is a multi-starrer series on the internet. In the show, a young man wakes up to find a world where gender roles have been reversed. With a purpose of promoting social campaigns, Man’s World features celebrities like Parineeti Chopra, Kalki Koechlin and Cyrus Sahukar.

Bang Baaja Baarat

Bang Baaja Barat features Ali Fazal and Angira Dhar in the lead roles. The two hail from different backgrounds, fall in love and decide to get married, but not without their parents blessings. The 5-episode long series will challenge your understanding of ‘opposites attract’.

Love Shots

An anthology of six short films, Love Shots is directed by Ankur Tewari. It features actors like Farida Jalal, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Nimrat Kaur among others.

UTV Broadcasting Ltd’s youth channel Bindass announced its first fiction web series—Girl in the City—which premiered on Facebook on April 28, followed by YouTube. This 10-episode series revolves around a small town girl who finds her way in Mumbai.

Lovebytes is a twist on the cranky romance of daily soaps. Coming from the house of Sony LIV, LoveBytes is about a couple in a live-in relationship.

A.I.SHA My Virtual Girlfriend

A.I.SHA My Virtual Girlfriend premiered on April 9 and has already been viewed over half a million times. The episode shows a 26-year-old socially awkward app developer who is secretly working on his own artificial intelligence app. The show is produced by Raghu Ram and Rajiv Laxman.
