From ‘student’ of the year to playing a ‘father’ in a short span, Sidharth Malhotra is totally zipping his outings on the silver screen. This super-sweet, ‘very very’ handsome actor with a boyish charm will be seen ageing in the upcoming film Baar Baar Dekho.
In Chandigarh, to promote the film along with debutante director Nitya Mehra, this Delhi boy opens up his Mumbai diaries.

The number is rocking the charts and no it was not as much fun as it looks. Admits Sidharth, “Katrina puts in all her might in rehearsals, which did make me look bad in front of the crew.” Used to garnering all the attention, the leading lady would end up hitting Sidharth only to get a warning lest this Brothers’ actor had to put in use his mixed martial arts training! It’s Sidharth’s second hit with Badshah, after Kar Gayi Chul...and the two hit it off along with the Dream Team Tour.
Perfect age
Baar Baar Dekho gives Sidharth a chance to grow along with the story. Playing different ages, however, did not come easy. “It sure was challenging to look and act as someone in the mid-forties. I picked up the body language from my dad.” And, no lame white hair to age this young man but prosthetics, which he hopes would help him look convincing in the mature role!
All packed
Sidharth plays a commitment-phobic professor who takes his girlfriend for granted in the film. Twinkle in his eyes, he would not share the storyline but opens up enough that in personal life he finds it too difficult to balance both the worlds. Post stardom, he enjoys all the attention he garners wherever he goes but it also means it leaves little time for family, friends and personal pursuits.
Busy body
Yes, he sticks on the ‘single’ claim next. “Where do I have time for a relationship? Each minute of my day is taken care for professional commitment,” claims the actor. “For the last few years this is what I have been dreaming of; now that it’s coming true I can’t complain.”
Learning curve
Teachers’ Day it is when we meet this handsome lad dressed in green shirt and ripped jeans. His mentor in the industry? “The sets of My Name Is Khan (Sidharth was assistant director there); I did not find one but three teachers — Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. I consider them my film school.” Being an outsider, he does not deem it important to have a godfather. “Now the film scene is totally changed, you can audition online so the whole dynamics is different and so many vistas have opened up.
Up next
Post Baar Baar Dekho, which releases this Friday, the actor has already locked in his next projects. There is this untitled action film with Jacqueline Fernandez, directed by Raj & DK and a remake of Rajesh Khanna’s Ittefaq. Ashiqui 3, he admits, is in the ‘talks stage’ but not final yet.
Till then, it’s Kala Chashma for you all!
