Now that you have spent money on the multi-starrer film, Yaarana (not the Amjad Khan and Amitabh Bachchan one), you might as well spend a few extra bucks on preparing a medical kit that you would need to carry along. A strip of Disprin and a bandage (in case you feel like hitting your head on the wall).
Yaarana, directed by Ranbir Pushp, with Gavie Chahal, Geeta Zaildar, Yuvraj Hans, Yashpal Sharma, Puneet Issar and Yuvika Chaudhary was largely being looked upon as a sports-based film. But, other than a football flying in the air like a thing from Avengers, the director Ranbir has only introduced three love stories with a hint of ‘something is coming’ in the first few minutes. Okay now, you can wash down one Disprin! The film, if it ever has a plot or a storyline, is far outside the field. All you have are some cheeky dialogues, three girls, one who is always either driving a car or standing near it. Second, who one day appears in a transparent dress, and the second day, is riding a ladies bicycle wearing a dress and the third, who is doing nothing!
So, overall, just like the audience, the director has no clue what is happening around. And let us remind you again, this film has a lot to do with sports (football). But the only sport you see is ‘love sport.’
The dialogues seem like coming from a ‘sataaya hua, turned stone someone’. ‘Mere mukey di speed ....’ Time for your second Disprin!
Over to the cast; since we don’t have anything coming from the director, the story-writer and the dialogue-writer! The film has a generous dose of singer actor Geeta Zaildar, who is a college student and part time babaji!
The singer did an okay job in Punjabi film Vyah 70 km, but in Yaarana, he has completely lost himself. How about concentrating on singing for a while? Next up, is the lanky Yuvraj Hans, a singer with a great voice. As for acting, he has the capability, but needs one good director. The third player of the team is the handsome Gavie Chahal, c’mon just because he has worked with Salman Khan you can’t have him repeating his dialogue. Ek baar jo mainey commitment kardi, phir main Salman Khan di vi nai sunda. Does the director have any clue that Gavie is a quiet a fine actor? Talking about a fine actor, kudos to the director and everyone else who have helped in wasting a talent like Yashpal Sharma, who plays a comic coach in the film. More than the film, one would want to know the moment he signed the film.
Another actor who is put to no use beautifully is Puneet Issar and Dolly Minhas. For the girls; a clothing line, walk down the ramp…search for better options.
Oh! did we forget it has sports, a match that you have never seen before, commentary that Harsha Bhogle needs to take lessons from? Have you exhausted your medical kit, well, if you have survived, you might need one more Disprin when you listen to the mis-situated music! What are friends for after all…to make your life hell! This is true Yaarana!
