JHAJJAR: Superintendent of Police (SP) Pankaj Nain recently set a special dress code for employees of his office to give a corporate look and image makeover. The employees would now wear grey trousers and white shirt with name and Haryana Police logo. “The new dress code will facilitate identification of the staff and help visitors identify those posted in the office. Earlier, the visitors had to enquire about them due to similar dress for office and field employees,” said the SP.

Stature of Randeep on the rise

Hisar: Congress MLA from Kaithal Randeep Singh Surjewala’s proximity to leaders and prominence in the party, courtesy his position as incharge of communication wing, had raised his stature, especially in Jind and Kaithal districts. Party workers had been projecting him as the next chief ministerial candidate of the Congress. He was overworked with party affairs, but would have to give time to his constituency in Kaithal and home district of Jind to connect to workers due to electoral politics.

Penalising users of polythene

Faridabad: The movement against use of polythene in daily life had picked up in Faridabad in the recent past. The authorities had challaned several people, including traders, for using polythene bags banned by the state government as per a notification issued in 2013. The production, distribution and use of polythene of less than 15 microns had been banned. With a total penalty of more than Rs 1.5 lakh so far, this month had the highest number of challans this year. The minimum challan amount for erring shopkeepers was Rs 5,000. “We have been pressuring officials concerned to issue challans on a daily basis and the movement has shown some progress recently,” said AK Gaur of the Faridabad Action Group, an NGO.

NDRI best agricultural university

Karnal: The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal topped among over 70 state agricultural universities and four deemed universities of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Delhi. The institute had topped for the second consecutive year. Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh gave away the award to Dr RRB Singh, Director, NDRI, recently. He handed over three awards to the technical and supporting staff of the Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research. A student of the animal biotechnology division, Sonalika Ahlawat, was given Jawaharlal Nehru Award for outstanding doctoral thesis. Dr Ravi Kant was given ICAR cash award in technical category for best work.

A step towards women education

Sonepat: Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain on Saturday claimed that Sonepat was among the leading districts in the country in terms of strong infrastructure for women education and empowerment. She was inaugurating the first academic session of newly opened Government Girls College. “Besides a large number of higher and senior secondary schools for girls, the district has one women university, one women medical college and eight women degree colleges,” she said. She added that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was particular towards safety and security of women and had formed 30 Durga Vahini squads for the purpose.
