In a decision that could kick up a political controversy, the state government has dropped the name of late PM Rajiv Gandhi from the seva kendra’s being constructed in villages. The newly constructed buildings would now be simply known as gram sachivalayas.
Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu inaugurated the first gram sachivalaya (village secretariat) in Muklan village today which had been constructed as Bharat Nirman Rajeev Gandhi Sewa Kendra under a Central government scheme.
The Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan too had renamed these seva kendra replacing it with the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the eve of the latter’s birthday in December last year. The decision had evoked a strong protest from the Congress in Rajasthan.
Rajesh Jakhar, a son of Muklan village sarpanch Nimbo Devi, confirmed that the newly constructed seva kendra has been named as gram sachivalaya.
