The state Assembly elections are round the corner and ticket aspirants of all major political parties have started campaigning in their constituencies. Many of them are lobbying hard for the party ticket while many others are contacting voters.
Yamunanagar district has four Assembly constituencies of Jagadhri, Sadhaura, Yamunanagar and Radaur — all represented by the BJP.
Jagadhri MLA and Haryana Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal Gurjar has been campaigning non-stop for about five years, forcing the prospective candidates of other political parties also to start campaign.
BSP probable Adarsh Pal Gurjar, Congress probable candidate Akram Khan and other prospective candidates started campaigning in the Jagadhri segment several months ago, but they would have to do it on a war footing to cover all villages and urban areas. These leaders are holding public and workers’ meetings every day.
“Haryana Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal Gurjar has been campaigning in his Jagadhri constituency continuously for the past four years and 10 months. He has covered all villages and all colonies of Jagadhri town several times. Now, he is going to rural and urban areas every day to seek the blessings of people,” says Kapil Manish Garg, BJP media in-charge of Jagadhri segment.
Similarly, campaigning in the Yamunanagar Assembly segment has also gained momentum. Besides present BJP MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora, Indian National Lok Dal’s Dilbag Singh, Congress’Krishna Pandit, her son Rajan Sharma, Devinder Chawla, Satpal Kaushik and Rakesh Sharma, aka Kaka, are also active in the constituency and are meeting people.
In the Raduar Assembly segment, BJP legislator Shyam Singh Rana has employed a different style of campaigning. He goes for a morning walk in a new village every day and listens to the grievances of villagers. He has been doing this for the last about five years.
Besides, prospective candidates of the Congress Bhupinder Singh Rana and Suresh Dhanda and of other parties are also working hard to establish a contact with voters.
Similarly, Sadhaura MLA Balwant Singh and other probable candidates of the BJP such as Data Ram are also campaigning on a war footing in the constituency.
Former Congress MLA from Sadhaura Rajpal Bhukhri and prospective party candidates Brijpal Chhappar and his wife Pinki Chhappar are busy nowadays campaigning in the constituency.
Besides campaigning, most of the probable candidates are lobbying hard for the ticket from the seat of their choice.
The Congress in the district is divided into several groups owing allegiance to Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kumari Selja, Ashok Tanwar and Randeep Singh Surjewala. But the group of Kumari Selja, Rajya Sabha MP and president of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, is the strongest.
Several persons seeking to contest the elections on the symbols of regional or local political parties and as Independent candidates have also kicked off their campaigns to give a fight to the candidates of mainstream political parties.
