Gurugram, April 11
The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MC) sealed 11 popular marriage venues -- Ashiana Vatika, Shri Ram Vatika, Krishna Manglam Garden, Rangoli Garden, Vishal Garden Blushing Garden and Shagun Garden -- on Wednesday, and Vatika Garden, Shri Shyam Vatika, Lotus Garden and Yadav Garden on Tuesday, after its owners failed to clear property tax dues despite being served notices.
The move has rattled the entire city as these venues, along with 60 others, were on defaulters’ list since they ignored the MC warnings and notices. MC Commissioner Yashpal Yadav had issued them final warnings in the second week of March seeking clearance of all dues. While 25-odd farmhouses and halls cleared dues and around 12 requested more time citing litigation issues. Many ignored the warning and were taken to task.
“They are earning lot of money from these properties but are not ready to pay taxes. They have been given multiple opportunities and notices to deposit the money. The sealing drive will continue if banquet hall owners fail to clear their dues. The MC has enhanced its budget this year all thanks to property tax collections, which will allow us to plan better infrastructure,” MC Commissioner Yashpal Yadav said. Earlier, the revenue team went to seal Prakash Vatika, Amit farms and Celeberation Garden, but the owners of these marriage venues cleared their Rs 62 lakh dues on the spot, he said.
