2 brothers die as roof collapses

Yamunanagar, July 15

Two brothers were killed after the roof of their room, in which they were sleeping, collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the district’s Saran village on Sunday night.

The deceased have been identified as Manpreet (10) and Rajat (8). Manpreet was studying in Class IV, while Rajat was a student of Class II in the government school of their village.

Rajesh Kumar, his wife Dimple and their youngest son Karan (3) were sleeping in one of the rooms of their house. Manpreet and Rajat were sleeping in the other room.

Villagers said roof made of mud collapsed on Manpreet and Rajat around 10 pm. They were taken to hospital of Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana, where they were declared brought dead.

Saran village sarpanch Komal Rani said the deceased boys belonged to a poor family. “Rajesh had lost vision a few years ago because of diabetics. His wife runs the house. She works as a labourer.”

The sarpanch further said the Saraswati Nagar naib tehsildar visited the bereaved family and assured them of sending their case to the state government for compensation. 

Lalit Kumar, Station House Officer, Chhappar police station, said the bodies were handed over to the family after the postmortem examination. The police conducted the proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Relief sought

The boys belonged to a poor family. Their father had lost vision a few years ago because of diabetics. Their mother wife runs the house. The sarpanch said officials would urge the state to compensate the family.
