Three Panchkula colleges are among the top 10 in all Haryana government colleges with Sirsa college topping in employability, according to the state’s higher education department rankings – PRaYAAS.

The department has devised a ranking framework — Performance Rating Yardstick for Academic Audit Standards (PRaYAAS), which was released on November 19, for monitoring the performance of higher education institutes in the state. In the first phase, government colleges have been covered. In the later phases, state and private universities and self-financing colleges will be covered.

The methodology includes marking on 10 parameters — academic quality (30 marks); teaching and learning quality (95 marks); research quality and impact (25 marks); collaboration/strategic alliance (10 marks); employability (80 marks); infrastructure (135 marks); inclusivity, representation and diversity (20 marks); student engagement/support services (40 marks); outreach activities and social impact (30 marks) and governance and management (35 marks).

“The motive behind the rankings is to encourage competition among colleges. The parameters have been taken from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and other national rankings,” said A Sreenivas, Director, Higher Education, Haryana.

In infrastructure, GC Sector 1, Panchkula, is at top with 129 score followed by GCW Unhani (125) and GCW Bhiwani (120). GC Farrukhnagar is at the bottom.

In teaching and learning quality, GC Ambala Cantonment topped with 77 score, followed by GCW Bhiwani (76) and GC Sector 1, Panchkula (75). At the bottom is GCW Bawal.

In employability, Panchkula colleges have grabbed the top three slots — GC Sector 1, Panchkula (77), followed by GC Kalka (60) and GCW, Sector 14, Panchkula (53). As many as 10 colleges scored zero on this parameter.

In research quality and impact, Government National College (GNC) Sirsa topped with 20 marks, followed by GC Panipat (19) and GC Hisar (18). As many as six colleges have scored nil on this parameter.

In academic quality, GNC Sirsa topped with 26 out of 30 marks while Government College for Girls (GCG) Gulha Cheeka topped in inclusivity, representation and diversity with 20 out of 20 marks.

On poorly performing colleges, Sreenivas said that those have been newly established.

Overall just nine colleges have Grade A+ ranking with total marks above 350 out of 500 while 20 colleges are in Grade A with marks between 300 and 349 and 30 colleges are in Grade B+ with marks 250-299.
