No progress has been made in setting up of a monument and a research centre on Rajput warrior Prithviraj Chauhan at Taraori in the district even after three years of the announcement.

During a rally at Taraori on August 9, 2015, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced to set up a monument and a research centre on the great warrior. Two battles of Tarain were fought between Prithviraj Chauhan and Mohammad Ghori at Taraori.

The main aim behind establishing the monument and the research centre was to make the younger generation aware of the struggle, sacrifice and valour of the great Hindu warrior against the invaders.

Sources said the Yodha Samarak Samiti was to identify a piece of land for the memorial, but the samiti was yet to finalise it.

A fort of Prithviraj Chauhan is located at Taraori, but it is in dilapidated condition. Demand for restoration of this historical monument has been raised by people time and again, but to no avail. Lots of people, who came from Pakistan after the Partition, are living there.

Virender Singh Chauhan, Director, Haryana Granth Academy, claimed that he had raised the demand for the memorial with the CM in the rally. “I have sought time from the CM for this ambitious project,” he said.

Rajesh Kumar, secretary, Yodha Samarak Samiti, said that they had identified a piece of land, but it was under litigation. They would also explore other options for the land, he added.

Deputy Commissioner Aditya Dahiya said that the land was to be provided by the samiti and the rest of the work was to be done by the government. “As soon as the samiti provides us the land, we will expedite the process for the project,” he added.
