As many as 67 youths have applied for two posts of peon in zila parishad office here.
What presents a grim picture is the fact that out of these applicants, 35 are postgraduates, including seven MBAs and 10 engineers. Unemployment has forced these educated youths to apply for the petty job of peon.
Their application forms were scanned for completing the recruitment process on the basis of merit.
But the exercise was stayed by the court following an appeal by a former peon of the zila parishad whose services were terminated.
She had challenged her termination, demanding that she be regularised.
When she learnt that the authorities had started the recruitment process for filling two posts of peon, she again moved the court, which stayed the process.
Jitender Kumar, chief executive officer, zila parishad, said the scrutiny of the forms had been completed, but the court had stayed the recruitment proceedings till further orders.
