Four inmates escaped from the Nari Niketan here, Haryana’s only government-run shelter home for women, on Thursday night.
They were later rounded up by the police and handed over to the Nari Niketan authorities. This was not the first such instance. Four incidents of escape had taken place in the last five years.
Four inmates, all in their 20s, attacked the woman attendant of Nari Niketan on Thursday evening. After throwing chilly powder into her eyes, they escaped, taking the phone of the attendant.
While one of them was arrested near the bus stand, the other three were arrested from the municipal corporation building. They were trying to flee the city, said Virender Saini, DSP (HQ).
He said they were handed over to the Nari Niketan authorities after registration of a DDR. He said the SDM was inquiring the reasons behind their escape.
