Karnal, June 28
The work on Dr Mangal Sen auditorium has started, a year after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had made an announcement about it. Khattar had, on the demand of residents, announced the construction of an auditorium on the premises of the old Sessions Court near the Ambedkar Chowk in Karnal on April 6, 2016. Now, after more than one year, the Panchayati Raj Department has started the work on it. The project will be completed at a cost of Rs 7.63 crore.
According to Panchyati Raj Department officials, the work on the project was to commence in the end of 2016, but it could not be started due to the lethargic approach of the Police Department. The police did not vacate the premises where case vehicles were parked. The police were approached several times to vacate the site.
The city has no auditorium of the district administration and residents have to depend on the auditorium of the NDRI or those in private schools, says Aman Singh, a resident of the city.
An official says the auditorium will have a sitting capacity of 1,000 persons with comfortable luxury chairs, light sound and a projector. The stage of the auditorium will be around 150 sq feet. A parking facility for around 200 vehicles would also be provided. Mandeep Singh Brar, DC, had paid a surprise visit to the site last week and directed the officials concerned to speed up the work on the auditorium.
