Activists seek justice for youth beaten up for ‘cow smuggling’

The SIT constituted to probe the thrashing of Naushad, a youth from Uttar Pradesh, over the suspicion of cow smuggling at a village in Rohtak, started its inquiry on Tuesday.

Talking to The Tribune here on Tuesday, SIT in charge Maqsood Ahmad said the allegations of cow smuggling as well as thrashing of the youth would be looked into and strict action would be taken against the culprits.

On being asked about the alleged lapses on the part of police, he said action would be taken if any policeman was found guilty.

“We will find out whether any cow was being smuggled. We will also get the person(s) involved in the thrashing of the youth identified. Then, legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” he said.

Meanwhile, a delegation comprising representatives of social organisations met Rohtak SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, and urged him to ensure justice for Naushad.

The delegation said Naushad had been dealing in the sale and purchase of animals in Haryana and UP for around 10 years and there was no criminal case lodged against him.

The SP promised the delegation the matter would be investigated and action taken against those found guilty.
