Avneet Kaur wins big in Panipat

BJP candidate Avneet Kaur (25) today became the first woman mayor of Panipat Municipal Corporation by winning with the highest margin of 74,940 votes among five corporations in the state.

Besides, out of the total 26 wards here, 22 BJP councillors registered a win, creating history here.

Avneet Kaur got 1,26,321 votes out of the total 2,03,068 votes polled while Congress-backed candidate Anshu Kaur Pahwa got 51,381 votes. The candidate of Loktantra Suraksha Party Seema Saini got 12,192 votes, INLD-BSP alliance candidate Priyanka Kashyap got 7,309 and Independent candidate Bharti got 2,857 votes. As many as 3,008 people selected NOTA.

On the other side, the BJP outshone all others in 22 wards out of 26 wards in Panipat. Only one Congress-backed candidate, Shakuntla Garg, won in ward 14 by 74 votes. She defeated BJP candidate Neerja Singla.
