She said it reflects the narrow mentality of the state government.

In a post on her Twitter handle, she wrote, “Sarkar ko khiladiyon ke saath rajniti nahi karni chahiye. Mein kushti hall radd karne ke liye sarkar ka purjor virodh karti hun. Mein chahti hun mukhya mantri ji khud is maamle mein hastakshep karein.” (The government should not drag the sportspersons in politics. I strongly oppose the scrapping of the project of wrestling hall. I want the chief minister to intervene in the matter.)

Babita, who is a two-time gold medallist in the Commonwealth Games, had also campaigned for Digvijay Chautala in the Jind bypoll.

The Phogats have been dominating the women wrestling since 2010 when Babita won the silver medal and Geeta bagged the gold medal.

The Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal is also based on the struggle of Mahavir Phogat who trained his daughters in wrestling.

The state government has shelved the project of construction of sports stadium and wrestling hall in Balali village of Charkhi Dadri district which is the native village of Phogats.

On September 18, 2016, the state government approved the project and also sanctioned a grant of Rs 1.80 crore.

Later, the village panchayat too decided to transfer 10 acres of panchayat land to the district administration for construction of the sports facility.

The village has produced six international players, including women wrestlers, boxer Rajkumar Sangwan and volleyball player Sanjay Phogat.
