Bahadurgarh (Jhajjar), June 24

The 11.2-km-long fully elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh section of the Delhi Metro’s Green Line was opened to passengers on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the section through video-conferencing at a function held at the City Park Metro station in Bahadurgarh here, known as the Gateway to Haryana.

The Prime Minister also symbolically flagged off the train through video-conferencing which was seen by people on the LED screen installed at the programme venue.

This will facilitate the travel of people employed in industrial units along the corridor, besides catering to city youths studying in the state’s upcoming educational hub.

This is the DMRC’s third foray into the neighbouring state of Haryana. Metro services are already operational in Gurgaon (Yellow Line) and Faridabad (Violet Line).

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Haryana Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar, Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda and BJP MLA Naresh Kaushik were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Modi said the expansion of the Metro up to Bahadurgarh would transform the “Gateway to Haryana” into the “Gateway of Development” as a large number of people, especially students, servicemen and businessmen, who use to daily commute to and from Delhi, would avail this connectivity.

“There is a direct link between connectivity and development, hence the BJP government is leaving no stone unturned to build convenient, comfortable and affordable urban transport systems in cities. Even, a special policy has been formulated for the first time not only to set a basic standard for metros but also to cater to all technical issues related to metros,” said the PM.

Modi said the BJP government wanted to boost the “Make in India” programme by making coaches of the metro in India itself. Several nations helped India in the making of the Delhi metro and now, India was assisting other nations by designing coaches for their metro systems. Twelve cities were being connected through metro in the country, he added.

“After Shanghai, Beijing, London and New York, the Delhi Metro has become the fifth largest metro network in the world. Two modern metro coach manufacturing plants are being set up in Vadodara of Gujarat and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. After the setting up of these plants, India will be able to export metro coaches to other countries as well,” the PM asserted.

Earlier, thanking the Prime Minister for inaugurating the metro line, Khattar said the Central government had given many projects to Haryana, which showed special affection of the PM towards the state.

He said the 11-km-long track had been constructed at a cost of Rs 2,028 crore and it would benefit 1.5 lakh passengers. Passengers would now also feel the “ease of living” as they would face less traffic congestion on roads.
