The police have registered a case in connection with an incident in which some persons allegedly dug out a body from a grave at the Sector 64 cemetery, chopped off its head and ran away with it last night.

The police said the body of 85-year-old Babu Khan, which was buried here on June 13, was taken out on Wednesday night by some persons, who removed its head and buried the torso. The chopped head was taken away by the culprits, they said.

Sonu, Babu Khan’s relative who reached the cemetery today, lodged a complaint with the police, suspecting it to be handiwork of some ‘tantrik’. He said some items of ‘tantrik’ rituals were found at the spot.

“The police have registered a case under Sections 295, 295-A, 297 and 153-A of the IPC against unidentified accused,” said Sube Singh, public relations officer, police department. He said the police had launched a hunt to trace the culprits.
