The State Election Commission (SEC) has decided to prepare only one voters list for local bodies and Assembly polls.
“A decision for common voters list has been taken in the backdrop of complaints from voters,” Haryana SEC Dharam Vir told The Tribyne on the sidelines of the 22nd All India Conference of SECs.
“There have been a number of complaints that voters were registered for the Assembly elections but not for local bodies.”
The conference, which was addressed by Chief Election Commissioner of India HS Brahma, was hosted by the State Election Commission of Haryana.
Dharm Vir, who was Chairperson of the conference, said that the general mood at the meeting was in favour of the EC and State Election Commissions havingone common voters list to minimize complaint and generate more confidence in the public.
He said the State Election Commissions’ voters list would be connected to Aadhar link to avoid repetition of names.
Brahma said the EC has decided to provide information about the status of voters list through SMS, e-mails and mobile applications.
He further said the EC has launched the National Voters’ Services Portal (NVSP) “This will act as a common platform where clean and verifiable date about every voter would be available to the public.”
Every voter would be able to search his name in electoral roll, apply online for registration as a new voter, correct entries and change his address and could track status of application by feeding his Aadhaar number, he added.
