Several computer teachers and lab assistants employed in government schools organised a state-level protest rally here today.

They are demanding regular jobs and minimum salary (Rs 15,000 for lab assistants and Rs 18,000 for computer teachers). They want the government to retain them till the formation of a new policy for them.

After the rally in Karan Park, they took out a march towards Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s camp office. The police, however, stopped them near the office. They staged a dharna and raised slogans.

The protesters were adamant not to lift the dharna. But with CM’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Amrinder Singh assuring them of a meeting with Khattar before December 26 they lifted the dharna. They, however, threatened to launch an agitation from December 27 if their demands were not fulfilled.

Vinesh Kumar, a computer teacher, said the contract of more than 5,000 computer teachers and lab assistants was till December 31.

Gagan Kumar, a lab assistant, said: “Instead of giving us regular jobs, we are being appointed on a contract basis with a gap of some time. On several occasions, some of teachers and lab assistants were removed.”
