The police have arrested three jail officials on the charge of dereliction of duty in connection with the escape of a convict from the Yamunanagar district jail.
Jail Superintendent Atma Ram Bishnoi said convict Keki, a resident of Gujarati Colony in Ambala Cantonment, had escaped from the Yamunanagar district jail around 8.15 pm on Sunday. On his complaint, two FIRs were registered against Keki and unknown jail officials on the charge of negligence of duty at City police station in Jagadhri on Monday.
Bishnoi added an inquiry by a senior officer of the Jails Department held guilty of dereliction of duty three jail officials Raj Kumar, sub-assistant superintendent, Krishan Chand and Radhey Shyam, both warders.
He said the three jail officials were arrested on August 14 and released on bail the same day. A team of the CIA-II from Yamunanagar also arrested Keki from Ambala around 2.30 am on August 15. Keki was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for five years in a theft case on July 24, 2017.
KP Singh, DGP (Prisons), Jagdish Singh, IGP (Prisons), and other senior officials of the department had visited the jail on August 14.
