Couple commits suicide in Karnal village

A 30-year-old couple allegedly committed suicide in Staundi village, 18 km from the district headquarters, in the wee hours today.

They used the same noose to hang themselves from a ceiling fan in their house. The deceased were identified as Rajeev and Pooja.

Rajeev worked as labourer and was married to Pooja, a resident of Badholi village in Ambala district, around eight years back. They are survived by a six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son.

The reason for the suicide was yet to be established. The police handed over the bodies to the family after post-mortem examination.

Manoj Kumar, Sadar SHO, said they received information about the suicides in the wee hours, after which they took the bodies into possession.

According to preliminary investigation, some personal reasons were behind the suicide, he pointed out. “We have registered a case under Section of the 174 of the CrPC,” he added.
