Court: General category can fill reserved posts

CHANDIGARH: At least 500 posts of constable reserved for Special Backward Class (SBC) will be filled from the general category.

Chandigarh, February 22

At least 500 posts of constable reserved for Special Backward Class (SBC) will be filled from the general category. Disposing of a petition, the High Court has directed Haryana and other respondents to consider the case of petitioner-candidates against posts for the SBC.

The direction by Justice Ritu Bahri came on a petition filed by Krishan and other petitioners through counsel Mazlish Khan and Vikram Sheoran. The petitioners were seeking directions to fill up from general category candidates 500 posts of constable in the Haryana Police reserved for the SBC.

As the case came up for hearing, counsel appearing for the state told Justice Bahri’s Bench that vacancies reserved for the SBC were being filled up from among general category candidates in accordance with instructions issued by the government. — TNS
