Yamunanagar, August 31
The state government will construct a dam on Khilanwala Khol in Khilanwala village of Yamunanagar district to store the water of seasonal Pathrala river in the rainy season.
With the construction of the dam, farmers of the area will get water for irrigation. This will also stop land erosion and crop damage caused by the flood water of the Pathrala river every year.
“Our department has prepared a project of dam for Khilanwala village. Now, the state government has sent the file of the said project to the Central Water Commission (CWC), seeking clearance from it,” said Haridev Kamboj, executive engineer, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Yamunanagar district.
He said the proposed cost of the project would be Rs 29.1 crore. He said the stored water of the dam would be utilised for irrigating 3,200 acres covering nine villages in the Chhachhrauli area of Yamunanagar district. He said during monsoon, the Pathrala river caused soil erosion. “The construction of the dam will not only help in flood control, but also in irrigation and groundwater recharging,” said Kamboj. He said the construction of the dam would also help in the promotion of tourism in the area.
Sources said the proposed height of the dam would be 20.50 m. The catchment area of the proposed dam was 7.17 sq.km, which lied entirely in Haryana, they added.
