There is no need for earmarked parking space for houses up to 150 sq m (6 marlas) situated in residential colonies across Haryana, according to the amended Haryana Building Code, 2017.
While there is requirement of 0.5 equivalent car space (ECS) for each dwelling unit for plots between 150 and 250 sq m, the requirement is 0.75 ECS for plots between 250 and 500 sq m.
For plots above 500 sq m, the requirement has been pegged at 1 ECS. One ECS is equal to 12.5 sq m (2.5 m by 5 m).
The buildings code, amended on December 22 by the Department of Town and Country Planning, made provisions for parking in group housing societies, commercial buildings, educational institutions and government and semi-government buildings.
The amended building code made it clear that no storage and commercial activities would be permitted in covered parking areas. “The misuse of covered parking space shall attract levy of three times the penalty of composition fee prescribed for excess covered area in the respective category,” the code said.
Meanwhile, minimum percentage of covered area in case of industrial plotted colony was fixed to obtain occupation certificate. For area up to 2 acres, 25 per cent of the area must be covered.
For area from 2 acres to 5 acres, 20 per cent of the area had to be covered. For area between 5 acres and 10 acres, 15 per cent of the area had to be covered. For area above 10 acres, 10 per cent of the area must be covered.
“No occupation certificate will be issued unless debris consequent upon construction has been cleared,” the code stated.
