Rail travel between Delhi and Rewari will now take one hour and 50 minutes instead of two hours and 45 minutes with electrification of the 80-km track. Around 15,000 persons travel to Delhi every day in connection with work and business.

Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Wednesday flagged off the first electric train at the Rewari railway station. He inaugurated an information display board and Wi-Fi facility at the station. The demand for electrification was being raised for a long time.

Work on electrification was initiated in August 2017 at a projected cost of Rs150 crore. Scheduled to be completed in December 2018, the work got delayed due to technical reasons. Nine passenger trains ply on the Rewari-Delhi track daily. The minister said electrification would cut down travel time considerably and bring down the pollution level. He said it would ensure better connectivity to the Rewari railway station. He said passenger trains would run at a speed of 120 kmph from February 1.

“The facilities of a retiring room and a waiting hall are available on platform 1, a water-vending machine and a foot overbridge ramp on platform 4 and toilets on platforms 6, 7 and 8,” he said. A sum of Rs7 crore was being spent on other development works at the station, he said.

Blaming previous Railway Ministers for lack of modern facilities in west zone, he said they had remained busy developing services in their areas and did not pay heed to west zone. Rewari witnessed development in the BJP regime after its inclusion in the Jaipur division, he added.
