Yamunanagar, March 28
Former Deputy Speaker of the Haryana Assembly and two-time former MLA Akram Khan will join the Congress in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi, who will address a public meeting in Jagadhri on Friday.
“After consulting my supporters, I have decided to join the Congress,” said Khan.
He said he had met his supporters at his office in Jagadhri on Thursday to ensure participation of a large number of people at Rahul’s public meeting.
Khan signalled joining the Congress in December after extending support to party-backed mayoral candidate Rakesh Sharma Kaka in the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri MC elections.
Political analysts say Khan’s entry into the Congress will be significant for the party candidate from the Ambala parliamentary constituency as his family has a sound political background in Yamunanagar district. — TNS
