Karnal, December 22
Accumulated water, heaps of construction material and mud, open pits and stray dogs are enough to depict the mismanagement of the authorities who restarted the local Civil Hospital in haste today.
On April 13, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced to reopen the hospital in the old building of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH). His announcement materialised today.
Sheds for registration and medicine counters are yet to be constructed, while the entrance to the hospital is in a shambles because of the incomplete construction of the road outside the hospital.
On the first day, the OPDs of eight medical services were started. The medical services of ENT and ortho could not be started as the doctors were on leave.
In all, 16 doctors and about 80 paramedical staff were repatriated from the KCGMCH to the Civil Hospital on December. But due to non-maintenance of the building, it could not be started.
Dr Piyush Sharma, Principal Medical Officer (PMO), civil hospital, admitted that some works were incomplete. “In two to three days, arrangements will be in place. No doubt, there is a shortage of manpower, but the hospital had to be reopened as per the desire of the government.”
Civil Surgeon Dr Yogesh Sharma said, “We requested to the government to recruit manpower for the smooth functioning of the hospital.”
“With the reopening of the Civil Hospital, the pressure on the KCGMCH will be reduced. The process of issuing medical certificates will also be streamlined,” he added.
