Hisar, April 12
After keeping all in suspense, Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi launched his poll campaign from his native Adampur village of the district on Friday. Members of his family — mother Jasma Devi, wife Renuka Bishnoi and son Bhavya (26) — were by his side during a public meeting.
The family offered floral tributes to the memorial of Bishnoi’s father, former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, before hitting the campaign trail.
Kuldeep had stayed away from the campaign for about a month even as state Congress leaders took out a bus yatra across the state recently. Sources said he was keen to launch his son in politics and urged the Congress to nominate him (Bhavya) from Hisar.
On Bishnoi's absence, Bhavya made a startling revelation in a TV interview on Thursday, claiming that his father was struggling with throat cancer and he was in the US for treatment. “He was unable to reach out to the people because to his disease. So, he sent me and my mother among the people. We faced questions about my father’s absence. I have to come out with the truth now,” he reportedly said in the interview.
Bishnoi, while interacting with party workers at his house here on Monday, made it clear that he wanted ticket for his son from Hisar.
He had also asked the Congress leadership to field Bhavya, though the party wanted Bishnoi to contest. “The party leadership has not yet accepted his proposal,” the sources added.
