Faridabad, September 4
Vehicle owners using fancy registration number plates instead of the high security registration number plate (HSRP) after September 15 will face action.
Stating this, Hanif Qureshi, Commissioner of Police, said, “We extended the deadline for getting the HSRP from August 31 to September 15 on humanitarian grounds. The Transport Department has issued strict instructions in this connection and we will not grant extension any further.”
He said four special centres had been provided for getting the HSRP. He said the police would start issuing challans to the offenders on September 16.
Earlier, the police had warned action against the offenders from September 1, but complaints of inadequate facilities for the replacement of the number plates had made the authorities extend the deadline.
“I have made several visits to the service provider in the Sector 8 market for the HSRP, but I was told to wait for a few more days,” claimed Arun Kumar, a local resident.
“I had to spend more than five hours on Monday to get the HSRP,” said Pawan Kumar, another resident. Admitting rush of applicants, SK Sharma, district coordinator of the Road Safety Organisation (RSO), claimed that it appeared difficult to achieve the target in the given time, as more than one lakh vehicles did not have the HSRP.
