As many as 12 legislators have represented Faridabad Assembly segment till now. Despite being one of the oldest segments, this industrial hub of the North has not been able to achieve as much as its neighbouring cities like Gurugram and Noida.

Basic civic amenities and facilities like a sound transportation system, sewerage and pollution-free environment are missing from the Assembly segment, which gave birth to new segments Badkhal and Faridabad NIT in 2009.

“Despite the tall claims of the ruling party leaders and officials about spending hundreds of crores in the recent years on development, the city under this segment remains polluted and sees traffic chaos and waterlogged roads after every spell of rain,” said Satinder Singh, a resident of Sector 86. “Roads have been laid and repaired several times, exposing their poor quality,” he alleged, adding that poor sewerage was adding to their woes.

“We are fed up of false promises as hardly anything remarkable has been done except the construction of some roads,” claimed Rajkumar Gaur of Ajronda village near Sector 15 A. Despite being located in the heart of Faridabad city, the civic conditions in the village are deplorable with slush and garbage at every nook and corner.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, Amarjeet Singh of Sector 17 said that though nothing remarkable had been achieved, the ruling party still had better chances of winning.

A resident of Sector 86 said election promises had been forgotten, but the voters can see it for themselves that the civic amenities had failed to improve over the past five years. The work on the four-laning of the Tigaon road which is used by thousands of commuters daily was taken up recently, that is ahead of the elections.

The issues of waste disposal and rising pollution in the area have not been addressed despite the fact that the present MLA is a Cabinet Minister holding the portfolio of environment, industries and commerce. “The Gurugram and Agra canals which flow through the main city have become open sewage carriers as waste is dumped into them,” says Rupa Somsundaram, a local resident.

" My segment has seen development works worth over Rs 2,000 crore since 2014. Ninety per cent of the work on basic amenities is completed, and the remaining 10 per cent is underway. It is more than the work done in the past five terms." — Vipul Goel, BJP Minister

Oppositionspeak

"No development work has taken place in the constituency. The current MLA has been busy organising events that have hardly improved the life of the common man. The Swachh Abhiyan was launched in the state from Krishna Colony. It has now turned into a dumping site." Anand Kaushik, former MLA

Total voters: 2,38,070

  • 1,29,331 males
  • 1,08,731 females
  • 8 transgender
  • Incumbent MLA: Vipul Goel
  • Likely contender: Anand Kaushik (Congress)
