State BJP president Subhash Barala and Ambala City MLA Asim Goel on Monday inaugurated a free English-speaking ‘Scenictionary’ Course at Government Senior Secondary School at Prem Nagar in Ambala City. NGO Mera Aasman would bear all expenses of the course.
Scenictionary is a combination of two words scene and dictionary. The school claims to be the first government school in the country to introduce the course.
Barala said the English-speaking courses would surely benefit children of government schools. “Children will be able to learn English easily with this new method and will be able to contribute to strengthening the country and the region,” he added.
He called upon officials of Scenictionary, a USA based firm, to develop a system to teach Sanskrit as well.
Barala said, “Sanskrit is the mother of all languages. Unfortunately, earlier we had been slave of the Mughals and then the British and we remained disconnected from our culture. But due to the efforts of our ‘Karam yodhas’, our culture is still alive despite such a long period of slavery. It will be great if a similar system is developed to teach Sanskrit as well”. The representatives of the firm said that they had already started working on this.
The MLA said just as the spark of the revolution of 1857 had started from Ambala, the drive of the free English Speaking Course in government schools has also started from here. As part of the course, 125 children of Class IX of the school will get training for free for six months. Students will not be required to carry pens, books or copies. Children will see different videos and learn English”.
“The cost of the course is Rs 8,500 per child per month. But the firm has been giving its service to China at the corporate rates and we have requested it to provide the facility to us at the same price. NGO Mera Aasman will bear the expenses of the course,” he added. The MLA is running the NGO.
Later, Barala laid the foundation stone of a community centre being built at a cost of Rs 1 crore at Nasirpur in Ambala City.
