Ambala: Dr Suresh Deswal, a professor of geography at Government College, Ambala, has been awarded the green India award on the occasion of World Environment Day in New Delhi on June 5. He is known as ‘green man Deswal’ and has dedicated his life to grow and save trees. He has been awarded by the state government, government agencies and different NGOs repeatedly for his work. Deswal has planted innumerous trees over the last 15 years and spends 10 per cent of his salary on purchasing plants. He said several cities in the country were among the most polluted cities in the world. It had been pushing the world towards the end. He also delivered a lecture during the conference. Working with an aim to make the Earth greener, the professor keeps several plants in his car.

Refresher course for teachers

Sonepat: A 21-day refresher course on “ICT and Digitalisation of Education in India- Trends, Challenges and Prospects” was concluded at BPS Mahila Vishwavidyalaya at Khanpur Kalan in the district recently. Teachers from 48 universities and colleges took part in the course. Prof Sushma Yadav, Vice-Chancellor, said the role of teachers in this technical era had become more important and they were required to come up to the expectations of students. “A good teacher is always remembered and respected by his student,” he said.

Hisar girl’s helping hand for rural students

Hisar: A student of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Vishwa Narwal, who is pursuing MA in women studies has started a coaching institute in Hisar for students seeking admission in social science courses at the TISS, IITs, National Law Universities, JNU, and English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU). Vishwa is preparing for civil services after taking a break from her MA first year. Elated over the success of her institute this year after six students cleared CLAT, three students cracked TISS, two got admission in social science course in IIT, 10 got into JNU’s school of languages studies, Vishwa has announced to provide free coaching to a group of 30 government school students. “There are a lot of opportunities in social sciences. Since students with rural background too are excellent in studies, therefore, I will enroll 30 students from government schools in two-year coaching programme and help them get admission in reputed social science institutes,” she added.

K’shetra girl ranks 38 in medical entrance

Kurukshetra: Misha Madan, a student of Wisdom World School here, has scored 38th position in the entrance test of the prestigious Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry. She secured 99.97 per cent. The result was declared on Saturday night.

After scoring 98 per cent in Class XII exam result of the CBSE this year, Misha had achieved an all-India rank 614 in the medical entrance examination NEET. She scored 621 marks out of 720 in NEET. Misha wants to be a surgeon or undertake cancer research after completing MBBS. She credits her father Vishal Madan, a lawyer, and mother Enna, a homemaker, for her success. She said she did not take tuitions as the school provided in-house coaching for various entrance tests. Vinod Rawal, manager of the school, said the wisdom social welfare trust would provide full-fee sponsorship to Misha for the five-year graduation course.
