Grover, state BJP ex-chief, dies at 88

Om Prakash Grover, former state BJP president, passed away at his house in Sector 3 here on Friday after a long illness. He was 88. Grover was the state president of the party from 1998 to 2000. He was jailed in Narnaul during Emergency.

The cremation was performed at a cremation ground on the Delhi road here on Saturday. His elder son Sunil Grover lit the funeral pyre while Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Public Health and Engineering Minister Banwari Lal, MLAs Randhir Kaprivaas and Vikram Singh Yadav were present.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
