Guv inaugurates NCC HQ at MDU

Rohtak: Governor of Haryana and Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki inaugurated the NCC (National Cadet Corps) headquarters and a security-cum-surveillance control room on the university campus here on Monday.

Professor Solanki expressed hope that establishment of NCC headquarters on MDU premises would motivate students of the university to take up NCC. Manish Grover, Minister of State for Cooperation, Printing and Stationery and Urban Local Bodies, Bijender K Punia, MDU Vice-Chancellor, Jitender Bhardwaj, Registrar, and NCC Group Commander Brig BS Dalal were also present. The Governor was the chief guest at the annual sports and cultural prize distribution function of the university. He congratulated the MDU for its sterling achievements in sports at national and international level. He termed MDU as the sports nursery of the state. TNS

Two HCS officers transferred

Chandigarh: The state government has issued transfer and posting orders of two Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officers with immediate effect. Rajiv Mehta, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Karnal, has been given an additional charge of Chief Executive Officer, Karnal Smart City Ltd., Karnal, relieving Aditya Dahiya of the said charge. Kanwar Singh, Managing Director, Cooperative Sugar Mills, Kaithal, has been given additional charge of Registrar, National Institute of Design, Kurukshetra, against a vacant post. The state government has issued transfer and posting orders of two chief account officers (CAO) with immediate effect. Om Parkash Sharma, chief account officer (CAO), in the office of commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Gurugram, and Bharat Bhushan Kalra, chief account officer (CAO), in the office of director, PGIMS, Rohtak, will swap their place of posting. Ruckus over ticket checking 

Panipat: Passengers travelling in a roadways bus created ruckus after a team of officials from Panipat depot boarded the bus for ticket checking near sector toll plaza on Monday. Commuters alleged that members of the ticket checking team thrashed and misbehaved with them in an inebriated state. An empty bottle of liquor was also recovered from the bus of checking staff, said sources. Commuters alleged that the team members asked passengers to alight from the bus following which they were thrashed. The police were informed and the situation was brought under control. RamKumar, General Manager, Panipat Depot, also visited the spot and said an inquiry had been directed into the incident and suitable action would be taken against any employee found guilty. TNS

Act against officers for not disclosing property: CM Khattar

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has directed that major disciplinary proceedings should be initiated against 125 officers of the Excise and Taxation Department, who failed to file their property statement in spite of repeated letters and warnings. Stating this here on Monday, an official spokesman said an inquiry officer would be appointed in each case. The erring officers include Excise and Taxation Officers, Assistant Excise and Taxation Officers, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (X) and Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (Inspection) of the department. 9 open air-gyms for Kurukshetra 

Kurukshetra: The Thanesar Municipal Council has decided to establish open-air gymnasiums at nine different public places in the city. Local MLA Subhash Sudha said on Monday that the local body had allocated Rs 30 lakh for the project. He said a sum of Rs 3.50 lakh would be spent on each site for installing different exercising equipment. The municipal authorities have identified Tau Devi Lal Park, Pipli; Jindal Park, Sectors 7 and 13; and ward numbers 19, 20 and 7 for the project. Similar facilities will also be introduced at Dronacharya Stadium and Police Lines, here. TNS

2 get 10-yr jail for drug smuggling 

Kaithal: District Sessions Judge MM Dhonchak on Monday sentenced two persons convicted of drug smuggling to 10 years imprisonment and fined them Rs 1 lakh each. The court also ordered additional imprisonment of one year each in case they failed to pay the fine. Babu Masih of Pehowa in Kurukshetra district and Gurjant SinghTren of a village near Patiala were caught with 91.50 kg poppy husk in Kathana village of the district in December 2017. The contraband was reportedly being brought from Madhya Pradesh. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against both. OC
