Haryanvi association in Australia

Hisar: Haryanvis residing in Australia recently set up the Association of Haryana in Australia (AHA). The association will be a centre of social, cultural and commercial activities and interaction between Haryanvis and the natives. Australian MP Julia Finn was among those present at a function organised in New South Wales. Sewa Singh Redhu, an office-bearer of the AHA, said that they have set up an office in Sydney that would function as a centre to assist Haryanvi students and other persons who visit Australia. They would also organise cultural events on the special occasions and festivals like Diwali and Holi. The AHA would also celebrate the Haryana Day function on November 2 when General Dalbir Singh Suhag (retd) would be the chief guest, Redhu said.

Cops motivated to cycle daily

Jhajjar: The district police have come up with a ‘bicycle-sharing’ programme to motivate policemen to cycle on a daily basis in order to maintain their fitness. “We have bought 30 cycles under the programme and the policemen will be able to avail the cycle service free of cost after getting themselves registered. They will have to return the bicycle after using it,” said Jhajjar SP Pankaj Nain. He added that that programme was launched by IGP (Rohtak Range) Sandeep Khirwar by flagging off a cycle rally. Khirwar said the programme would also be launched in other districts of Rohtak range.

FM’s family to hold mass marriage

Rohtak: The amount received by the family of Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu as compensation for his Rohtak house that was vandalised and burnt during the Jat quota stir in February 2016 will be used to organise a mass-marriage ceremony of poor girls. In a statement issued here, Capt Abhimanyu’s younger brother Major Satyapal Sindhu said the ceremony would be organised on December 15, which happens to be the birth anniversary of their late father Mittersen Arya. “We have received a compensation of about Rs 3 crore for the loss. We will spend the entire amount, along with the interest, on the mass-marriage ceremony,” Sindhu maintained, claiming that it would be the biggest such ceremony in the state’s history.

Two books released

Chandigarh: Noted writer Dr Narinder Kumar Upamanyu has added another feather to his cap. Two books “Haryana ke Pramukh Tirath Sthal” and “Hindustan ki Mahaan Hastiyan”, written and edited by him were recently released by Education and Tourism Minister Ram Bilas Sharma at Chandigarh. While complimenting the author for the books, Sharma said the new books would go a long way in popularising Haryana’s religious places besides giving a new perspective into the lives of India’s great personalities to the readers. Upamanyu also presented the books to Haryana Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya who appreciated the writer’s efforts in bringing forth good literature before society. Upamanyu has written and edited over 20 books in his literary career spanning over two decades. 

First beneficiary of Ayushman scheme

Rohtak: A 60-year-old male patient and resident of Asandh township in Karnal district has become the first patient in the country to have undergone heart bypass surgery under the Ayushman Bharat scheme at the PGIMS, Rohtak. The head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the PGIMS, Prof (Dr) SS Lohchab, who conducted the surgery along with his team, said the patient had suffered a heart attack and his all coronary arteries were blocked. He also had blockage in his leg arteries and diabetes mellitus. “Apart from the cardiac surgery, the patient also underwent bypass surgery of leg arteries simultaneously,” he said. 

Agri officials inspect mandis

Kaithal: Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Agriculture, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Dharamvir Singh and other officials, on Sunday visited ‘anaj mandis’ in Kaithal and Siwan. She directed SDM Kamalpreet Kaur to look into the case of a farmer, Surinder Singh of Songri village, whose paddy was purchased at Rs 1,660 per quintal as against the MSP of Rs 1,700. She also gave directions to take action against the commission agent and officials responsible in this case. She said that government has enhanced MSP by Rs 200 per quintal recently and farmers should get its benefit. She also directed that paddy which contained more than 17 per cent moisture should not be purchased. 

Report on bypass sent for approval

Sonepat: The National Highway Authority of India’s (NHAI) project report for the construction of a bypass connecting National Highway (NH) 334-B (Sonepat-Kharkhoda-Rohtak) with NH 352-A (Sonepat-Gohana-Jind) has been sent to the headquarters for approval. The aim is to de-congest vehicular traffic crossing Sonepat town to go to Delhi, Baghpat, Narela, Kharkhoda, Gohana and Jind. According to Anand Singh Dahiya, Technical Manager, NHAI, Rohtak range, this four-lane bypass would have a total length of 4.5 km and would connect Badwasni on NH 352-A with Rohat on NH 334-B through four villages. The NH 334-B as well as NH 352-A are also being connected with National Highway-1 (GT Road) with bypasses from Rohat and Badwasni in the district.
