HAU scientist’s wife dies, her kin blame husband

The HAU, Hisar, scientist’s wife died under mysterious circumstances here on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Renu (30) alias Anjali of Yamunanagar.

Her family alleged Renu’s husband Ompal of Karnal’s Nagla Roran village murdered her.

She married Ompal around eight years ago. They have two children — a six-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son. Renu’s brother, Neeraj, alleged Ompal killed his sister and later concocted a story of suicide. “He brought the body to Nagla Roran village on late Wednesday evening without informing us,” he said. Sources said Renu’s family learnt about her death from someone else.

When members of the deceased’s family reached the village, they took the body in their custody and blocked the GT Road for half an hour. The blockade was lifted after the Karnal police told them the Hisar police were on their way.

This morning, members of Renu’s family assembled outside Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) here and refused to get the body’s postmortem conducted till the accused was arrested.

On the police’s assurance that Ompal would be arrested soon, the body was lifted.

Kunjpura SHO Sube Singh said a case had been registered against Ompal under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC by the Hisar Civil Lines police.
