A man succumbed to dengue at a private hospital here today. The victim, Thandu Ram of Dabra village, was under treatment for the past few days. This is the second dengue death reported from the town in a week. Earlier, Koshalya Devi of Urban Estate-2 had died in Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on October 18. As many as 140 patients have tested positive for dengue so far.
Some localities such as Rishi Nagar, Surya Nagar, Shiv Colony, Urban Estate, Model Town, Azad Nagar and Mill Gate area are the worst affected. According to Health Department officials eight cases of dengue have been confirmed in Rishi Nagar locality in the past few days.
Besides dengue, cases of swine flu and malaria are also on the rise in the district. As many as 46 cases of swine flu and 145 cases of malaria have been reported from the district within a month.
Delay in fogging due to Diwali has seemingly led to the spread of the disease.
Dr Jaya Goel, district malaria officer, “The urban local bodies are responsible for carrying out fogging operations. We are conducting awareness campaigns and urging residents to take measures to prevent germination of dengue larvae in and near their houses.”
Sources said the Hisar MC had stopped fogging due to lack of funds.
Ashok Kumar Bansal, commissioner, MC, said fogging would be done in localities from where dengue cases have been reported.
