The police have booked four persons for the death of an infant here last week.
A group of youths from Puran Nagar allegedly entered the makeshift hut of Pradhan near Rao Abhay Singh Chowk here and thrashed his wife and five-day-old daughter on September 8 night. The infant died in the incident.
Sources said Lalit, prime accused in the case, was allegedly kept at the Model Town Police Station after the incident, but was released the next day after a compromise was reached with the complainant after paying Rs 2.5 lakh.
SP Sangeeta Kalia suspended investigation officer Om Prakash when the matter came to the fore three days ago.
The police not only traced the infant’s father and mother from Rajpura village in Ajmer district of in Rajasthan, but also exhumed the infant’s body from the cremation ground yesterday. The body had been sent to the PGIMS in Rohtak for the post-mortem examination to find the exact cause of her death. The husband-wife went to their village after the incident, said the sources.
The police booked four persons on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Section 304), criminal intimidation (Section 506) and causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information (Section 201) on the complaint of the girl’s father.
Some families from Rajasthan had been residing in makeshift huts near Rao Abhay Singh Chowk here for the past some years. They allegedly steal power at night, hitting supply to nearby colonies. On September 8 night, some youths from Puran Nagar had a scuffle with members of these families over power theft.
On getting information, the police reached the spot and rounded up Lalit and some others.
