The police have booked three persons, including JBT recruitment scam convict Sher Singh Badshami, in connection with a cheating and forgery case of Rs45 lakh.

On the directions of a local court, a case was registered against former Ladwa MLA Badshami of Kurukshetra district, Ishwar Singh and Karam Singh, both from Gurugram under Sections 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC at the Radaur police station on October 27.

Badshami surrendered in a local court on November 30. He was taken on two days’ police remand. In those two days, the police could recover Rs40,000 out of Rs45 lakh from him.

On Monday, the Radaur police produced him in the court of Sandeep Kaur, Judicial Magistrate First Class, and sought extension of remand by seven days so that forged documents and the rest of the amount could be recovered. The court, however, gave only two days’ remand.

The complainant, Karambir Singh, told The Tribune that he and his brother owned 96 kanals and 10 marlas of ancestral agricultural land in their native village Khurdban of the district.

He said he was shocked when he received a notice from a Gurugram advocate a few years ago that mentioned he entered into a sale agreement of his land. He said that as per the notice, he was asked to get the sale deed registered.

When he enquired about the matter, he learnt that Badshami, Ishwar Singh and Karam Singh prepared fake documents of Karambir’s land and sold it off for Rs45 lakh.

“I had filed an application in court, requesting that a case be registered against Badshami, Ishwar Singh and Karam Singh long ago,” Karambir said.

CBI seeking custody

Gurdev Singh, SHO, Radaur police station, said a CBI team on Monday sought Badshami's custody. "We told the CBI team that Badshami is in police remand. He will again be produced in court on December 4. Then, the CBI can seek his custody. I don't know in which case the CBI is seeking his custody," the SHO said.
