Jeweller robbed of briefcase in G’gram

A local jeweller was attacked by robbers who tried to take away his bag and car in Sector 15 on Friday night.

The accused managed to rob a briefcase containing the jeweller’s showroom keys and some documents and fled after leaving their car on the road when the police started chasing them. The police have got the CCTV footage of the area and are trying to identify the accused.

An FIR has been filed at the Civil Lines police station. Later, local MLA Sudhir Singla also visited the spot and promised traders that the accused would be nabbed soon.

As per complainant Devender Jindal (60), owner of Abhushan Mandir jewellery showroom in Sadar Bazaar, around 8.30 pm on Friday, he was returning home in Sector 15 in his Santro car with driver Sanjay.

“Five men came in a Honda city car carrying sticks and iron rods and smashed the windowpanes and one of them took the briefcase from the front seat of my car and fled,” Jindal said. —OC
