In major relief to candidates selected for various government posts, the government has allowed them to join government service without prior verification of their character and other antecedents.
Currently, candidates selected by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) and Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) are not allowed to join their first posting without verification of their character and other antecedents by the prescribed authority.
The process to verify character and other antecedents before first posting in the government service takes a lot of time, resulting in delay in appointments. This adversely affects the functioning of departments to which they are allotted.
“Prior verification of character and antecedents of candidates selected takes a lot of time and work of the department concerned suffers. Now, candidates recommended by the HPSC and HSSC in respect of appointment to any post can be appointed on provisional basis without prior verification,” read an order by the Office of the Chief Secretary dated September 9.
The Chief Secretary’s order further made it clear that character and antecedents should be verified within a period of two months after provisional appointment. “This relaxation does not confer any right to a candidate to remain in the job if subsequently anything adverse is reported at a later stage,” added the order.
